Fire at the Novocherkassk thermal power plant
A fire early Monday at one of the largest thermal power plants in southwestern Russia forced two of its units to stop operating, briefly interrupting supply to customers, the region’s governor said.


There were no casualties and authorities were investigating the cause of the fire at the Novocherkassk plant in Rostov, said the governor, Vasily Golubev, on Telegram.

The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces destroyed 11 drones launched overnight over Rostov by Ukraine, but did not reveal whether there was any related damage.

Novocherkassk is one of the largest thermal power plants in southwestern Russia, according to its owner, OGK-2, which is controlled by a subsidiary of Russian energy giant Gazprom.
