The European elections are just around the corner, from the 6th to the 9th of June, and with each passing day there is news regarding the candidates of each Portuguese party, today was one of those.

What happened?

For example, the head of the European Democratic Alliance (AD) list, Sebastião Bugalho, announced that the electoral program will be presented next week and guaranteed that he will fulfill his mandate if elected.

“I can tell you right now that we will present our electoral program, our European manifesto, in the week of Europe Day, celebrated on May 9th, we intend to have a set of proposals to present to the Portuguese and Europeans, of course, in that week. We are really ready to fight”, announced Sebastião Bugalho.

According to the AD, the president of Mafra City Council, the social democrat Hélder Sousa Silva, also suspended his mandate today to run for the European elections, the municipality announced.

And was there any more news?

Yes. Livre’s list leader for the European elections, Francisco Paupério, assured today that he has the support of the party and Rui Tavares and stated that an internal reflection will be carried out on the primaries process.

The researcher and leader of Livre spoke to journalists outside the Constitutional Court (TC), in Lisbon, accompanied by a small delegation that did not include the presence of spokesperson Rui Tavares, nor any current party deputy.

When asked about this absence, Paupério explained that Rui Tavares is on “parliamentary work” and that the internal process took place “very quickly”, since the list was only approved on Sunday night by the Assembly, the highest body between congresses, after a process of primaries that generated some internal discord.

And what else?

The president of Chega, André Ventura, considered today that the head of his party’s list for the European elections, António Tânger Corrêa, will be “the only adult in the room” and criticized the candidates from the PS and the Democratic Alliance (AD).

“We have a leader who has been vice-president of Chega for many years, a recognized name in society, with experience. In fact, I would venture to say that he will be the only adult in the room at these European elections, given that others are far from that and have presented candidacies that are honest or caricatured or not very credible,” he said.

The leader of Chega spoke to journalists before the delivery of the party’s list of candidates for the European elections on June 9 at the Constitutional Court, in Lisbon. André Ventura indicated that the candidates were chosen by him and said he expected “a great victory” from his party.
