Dragons fought for the rout after expulsion in the visiting team

João Gonçalves, AF Porto referee, directed FC Porto – FC Vizela which took place at Estádio do Dragão. Luís Ferreira, from Braga, was the video referee.

The game started more than 5m late compared to the scheduled time.

Below is a technical analysis of the most relevant moves of the match:

2′ Samu did enough to be warned. The “sweeping” entry about Evanilson was negligent. It was worth it good will from the Porto referee, given the fact that it was the first infraction in the match.

4′ Samu stepped on Galeno’s right foot, but after touching the ball. The contact occurred following this movement, which somewhat mitigated the late approach. However, the infraction should have been sanctioned.

22′ Wendell entered out of time, hitting Tomás Silva’s neck with his left arm. The offense was negligent. João Gonçalves maintained the breadth of the criteria, not acting disciplinary.

25′ Pepê fell in the opponent’s area after trying to compete for the ball with Lancava, who chose not to approach the play in the same way. The Venezuelan midfielder did nothing to cause his opponent to fall. The referee did well to signal nothing.

34′ Nico González, in an effort, headed the ball that touched Rodrigo Escoval’s right arm. The defender did not make any irregular movements and was in a natural position for the circumstance. There was no reason for a penalty kick to be awarded.

38′ Matias Lacava received the first yellow card of the match after a negligent tackle that halted João Mário’s progression.

41′ Bruno Costa ostensibly grabbed Pepê, illegally preventing the Brazilian from moving into a promising zone. The correct warning was accepted with fairplay by the offender himself.

45′ Nico González, with the game interrupted (corner kick in favor of FC Porto) pushed an opponent from two hands, knocking him down. The Spaniard’s unsportsmanlike behavior, without a playable ball, should have been worth a warning, but it was very difficult for the referee to be able to see the gesture in those circumstances.

45+2′ Lebedenko put his right hand towards the ball, preventing it from passing into the promising area. The Ukrainian’s infraction, after an attempted pass from Francisco Conceição, went unnoticed but was unsportsmanlike.

49′ The protests from Vizela’s players were emotionally understandable, but João Gonçalves’ decision was indisputable: Lacava was actually negligent in his approach to the play with Francisco Conceição. He rightly received the (second) yellow card and subsequent red card for accumulation.

58′ Galeno slipped in the Vizela area, without Tomás Silva carrying him illegally. Bid well analyzed by the refereeing team.

58′ A situation that happens frequently without the referees being able to assess it correctly: Essende was fouled, but he was also irregularly grabbing Otávio’s shirt, which was marking him. There are ways to try to see the play with greater precision (active team collaboration or choosing the best angle to analyze).

68′ FC Porto goal, gaining an advantage on the scoreboard: Pepê was in the game when Namaso passed the ball to him (Rodrigo Escoval, in the middle, legitimized his position).

73′ Namaso placed his right leg between Busnic’s legs, then fell in the Vizela area. The FC Porto striker was not carried by the Serbian midfielder. The referee of the match did well to point out nothing.

77′ Third legal goal for the visiting team: when Otávio shot at the opponent’s goal, Evanilson, who made the rebound, was behind three opponent defenders. Well validated bid.

89′ FC Porto scored the fourth following a (new) legal move: Francisco Conceição shot for Buntic’s defense, with Tony Martinez making a successful reload, starting from a regular position.
