Real Madrid announced in a statement that Thibaut Courtois suffered a serious injury in training this Tuesday and left the Valdebebas training center in tears. After carrying out the essential medical examinations, the Merengues reported that the Belgian goalkeeper suffered a tear in the internal meniscus of his right knee.

Although Real Madrid did not specify how long the 31-year-old goalkeeper will be out of action, the Spanish press reports that the player will be sidelined for a period of between six and seven weeks and could miss the rest of this season.

This injury is a serious blow for the Belgian goalkeeper, who was in the final stretch of recovery from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The player had returned to training with the rest of his teammates on February 21st.

The injury comes at the worst moment of the season for the team led by Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian coach had planned the next training sessions with the Belgian footballer and hoped to count on Courtois in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, in the tie against Manchester City.

It is recalled that Courtois suffered an injury at the beginning of the season, on August 10, two days before Real Madrid’s La Liga debut, in San Mamés, against Athletic Bilbao.
