“Henry doesn’t talk about Cristiano Ronaldo with enthusiasm. He’s underestimating him”

Rio Ferdinand revealed, on Saturday, the reason why he believes that Ronaldo Nazário and Thierry Henry have disliked Cristiano Ronaldo since the time they were both still playing. On Andreas Poke’s podcast, the former Manchester United defender recalled the problems that existed in the past.

“There was a problem somewhere because of the name. I believe it was because of the name. As if he said: ‘you stole my name, therefore I have a problem with you'”, Ferdinand began by explaining, referring to Ronaldo Nazário, before to address Henry’s case.

“I think Henry also had problems. The way I see him talking about Cristiano. It’s more what he doesn’t say. He doesn’t talk about Cristiano with enthusiasm or spark. It’s as if he underestimates him”, explained the former England international , before detailing a specific episode.

“There’s a video in Highbury where Henry slaps Cristiano in the back and Cristiano is pushing him. Then Cristiano scores the winning goal and they show Henry at kick-off with the result in the background. There seems to be a secondary story that is still in Henry’s head, probably”, concluded Cristiano Ronaldo’s former Manchester United teammate.
