There are 60 thousand fewer residents in Portugal subscribing to this type of services since November last year, a drop to 809 thousand people, equivalent to 9% of the population. Middle and lower-middle class represents more than half of the share of subscribers.

The number of Portuguese people who use or subscribe to sports content streaming platforms skidded, since November last year, to 809 thousand, a decrease of 60 thousand individuals, revealed the “B-Stream” study, produced by Marktest.

This is the first drop in subscription to these services since 2022, showed the report sent this Monday, March 25, to newsrooms. “The total number of subscribers to streaming sports packages fell by 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous wave of the study, to the level of 9.4% of individuals“, they explained.

A middle and lower middle class is the one who takes the biggest slice of the pie: represent 509 of the 809 thousand subscribers of streaming sports packages. In the upper and upper-middle class, “20.9% of Portuguese people over 15 years old use this type of streaming services and 12.9% subscribe to them”, concluded Marktest, adding that, in total, this socioeconomic group is equivalent to 23.8%.

The study also demonstrated that 59.2% of residents who watch sport on these platforms in “family homes or cafes” are from the lower-middle and lower classes.

In this sense, the indicator “utilization” showed signs of retreat: a drop of 1.6 percentage points, to 17.5% Portuguese. Still, this group is home to more than 1.5 million people, according to the data collected.
