The president of Vitória, António Miguel Cardoso, praised the campaign of the team led by Álvaro Pacheco, which resulted in the third consecutive qualification for European competitions, with five League rounds still to be played.

“It naturally pleased me”, said the president of Vitória, speaking to Santiago Group. António Miguel Cardoso highlighted the idea that Vitória “started this season with the minimum objective of qualifying for Europe and this was achieved with five rounds to go before the end of the championship. For the second time in its history, the club qualified for a UEFA competition for the third consecutive season. Our accounts are not, however, closed. We are not completely satisfied because at this club the bar must always be high. There are four rounds left and we want to get as many points as possible in each game. We have 57 points and, naturally, we want to reach 60 in the next round. It is with this determination that we go to the game with Boavista”, he added.

António Miguel Cardoso was also faced with the wholesale dismissal of the training department’s scouting team. And he made his position on the issue very clear: “First of all, it was not a dismissal, rather the end of a collaboration because they were not club employees. Their duties were to observe young athletes and prepare technical reports about them. The big problem is that they became convinced that their opinions should completely determine the policy for recruiting players for the club’s formation. Such a procedure, if it was ever followed in the past, makes no sense. Signing an athlete does not depend solely on a positive report prepared by one of the scouting members. Other factors must be considered and this responsibility does not lie with the team of grassroots football observers. The club has a hierarchy that must be respected. Therefore, I understand that they alleged fundamental differences related to the organization, responsibilities, autonomy and work processes in the formation of Vitória SC in the letter they sent to vice-president Pedro Meireles”.

Furthermore, António Miguel Cardoso noted that “Vitória SC’s youth football is currently going through a very good period. The under-17 and under-19 teams are discussing the final stages of their respective championships and these good campaigns clearly reflect the worthy work of all professionals and managers linked to the training department. It is also no coincidence that we have more and more players coming from this sector working with the main team, which is, in fact, one of the main goals of the Vitória SC Football Academy. And the club has never had so many athletes called up to the youth teams as at this time”, he concluded.
