Liverpool fell behind again in the fight for the title. After the defeat in the Merseyside derby with Everton, the Reds did not go beyond a 2-2 draw against West Ham, on their visit to London. Without the injured Jota, Jurgen Klopp’s team created the first imminent goal situation through Luis Díaz in the 40th minute. In response, Bowen threatened to make it 1-0, but Alisson was the hero the Reds needed. However, the Brazilian could do nothing a few minutes later to stop Bowen’s accurate header.
Being at a disadvantage at half-time, Liverpool had a positive start in the second half and managed to equalize the match in the 49th minute through the unlikely Robertson. The Scot received it from Díaz in the area and shot with Areola not looking good in the photo.
The French goalkeeper’s afternoon became even worse after the 65th minute. Following a corner, Gakpo shot, the ball deflected off Ogbonna, Soucek tried to cut on the line, but shot against Areola’s back… and Liverpool made it 2-1.
However, the Premier League’s third-placed side were unable to hold on to their lead and saw Bowen set up Michail Antonio to make it 2-2. It is true that Liverpool still tried to win and were close to scoring the goal that would have given them so much value, but Harvey Eliott hit the post in the 90th minute. Thus, the Merseyside team has 75 points, less than Man. City and two less than Arsenal. It is important, however, to note that the «citizens» have two less games while the «gunners» have one less. For its part, West Ham has 48 points and is two behind sixth-placed Man United.
