The latest version of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is finally available, bringing with it several new features for the system, and the new LTS version is available in a stable form.
This new version of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, codenamed “Noble Numbat”, arrives with the integration of Linux Kernel 6.8, which should guarantee greater compatibility with newer hardware.
The system also uses the GNOME 46 interface, along with the new GNOME File Explorer, which integrates a universal search system to help users quickly find the content they want.
Installation of the LTS version has also been improved, with the same installer now being used for the Desktop and Server variants, making the task easier. Desktop version users will have the minimum installation option selected by default, but can choose to have more software installed, such as LibreOffice and GNOME.
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS also comes with support for ZFS encryption, and should improve compatibility with dual-boot systems. There is also official support for the Raspberry Pi 5.
As this is a Long Term Support (LTS) version, Canonical guarantees that the system will receive updates for five years, and Ubuntu Pro users can have this value increased to 12 years.
