But it certainly wouldn’t be the only time that the topic would be on DN at the time. The same news already anticipated that two increases might not be enough for airlines, which did not leave aside the possibility of a third increase in ticket prices, which would make traveling by plane even more expensive at the time.

The same crisis had other effects around the world. In the United States, the number of unemployed people reached 2.6 million. At the time, the country had a population of approximately 214 million people. Among the number of people without jobs, 232 thousand had entered the statistics in the previous week. The newspaper described unemployment as “poverty” and a direct consequence of the oil and fuel crisis.

Of this contingent, the majority were from the automotive sector, one of the hardest hit. The state of Michigan is cited as being most affected by the oil crisis, with 114,000 unemployed, all from the automobile industry. To this day, Michigan is considered the largest car and truck producing state in the United States and one of the most industrialized. Even so, it is not immune to crises, as happened in January of this year. Again, more than a thousand workers were laid off, but this time the oil crisis was not cited as the cause.
