“Too good. My house was amazing. If you saw how it was in the past and how it is today, after the renovation, you wouldn’t believe it. I am really happy”. The testimony of the resident of Jardim Novo Horizonte, Robson Alves de Araújo, exemplifies the Viver Melhor program, which renovated the family home and provided more dignity and comfort to hundreds of residents of the neighborhood.

The Program, carried out by the City of Jundiaí, through the Municipal Foundation for Social Action (FUMAS) in an agreement with the State Department of Housing and the Housing and Urban Development Company of the State of São Paulo (CDHU), has already reached 123 renovated houses in Jardim Novo Horizonte.

“The advancement of the Viver Melhor Program reinforces the commitment of the municipal administration to increasingly expand investments in social housing in Jundiaí. The dream of safe and dignified housing is being realized for hundreds of families in Jardim Novo Horizonte”, said Mayor Luiz Fernando Machado.

In addition to the 123 houses already delivered, out of a total of around 400 planned, another nine are under construction, such as that of Mrs. Ester Amaral. “I was more than happy. I thought my house might collapse. And today it’s getting the way I want it. It was God who sent this project here”, said the resident, emotionally. Her house is undergoing plumbing, electrical work, roof renovation, among others.

Work on the Program began in October 2022 and is progressing gradually. “In addition to the reform promoted by the Viver Melhor Program, which provides more dignity to families, the municipality also intensified land regularization throughout the city, mainly in Jardim Novo Horizonte. Soon, in addition to the renovated house, residents will also receive registration for the property”, reinforced the superintendent of Fumas, José Galvão de Braga Campos (Tico).

“These deliveries demonstrate our mission of investing in people’s quality of life. The partnership with the State Government is essential to enable the creation and expansion of housing projects that allow low-income people to have the right to decent housing with all the necessary infrastructure for a safe and comfortable life”, commented the manager of Government and Finance, José Antonio Parimoschi.

A resident of Jardim Novo Horizonte for 19 years, Maria Lúcia Fagundes also had her house renovated. “I really like living here and I was very happy with the work. The color of the house was bright and she solved the little problems she had, such as infiltration,” she recalled.

The Viver Melhor program serves people with an income of up to five minimum wages and who live in homes with precarious housing conditions. The main services provided are flooring, covering, installation of frames, waterproofing, roof restoration, drainage repairs, electrical and hydraulic installations, connection to water and sewage networks, improvements to accesses and common areas of the housing nucleus, among others. The facades are also restored and given colorful paint with the aim of revitalizing the local landscape. The investment is around R$30,000 per house.
