“The king died unexpectedly yesterday afternoon”, read a statement released by the Russian press this Monday, where Buckingham Palace announced the supposed death of Charles III. The news was immediately denied by the British Embassy in Russia, which reiterates that the sovereign continues to work, despite being diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of February. “The news about Carlos’ death III from the United Kingdom are FALSE”, they warn on X (formerly Twitter).

The embassy’s statement was released by the Russian news agency TASS, after several media outlets reported the death of the English king. The news cited a supposed “royal communication announcement” released via Telegram ─ it is customary for the Windsors to release statements on social media, but they do so simultaneously in the British press.

Shortly afterwards, according to the TheMirrornewspapers like Readkovka or the Mash ─ both pro-Putin ─ corrected the news. “Fake news about the death of Charles III spread quickly and was just as quickly debunked. The king of Great Britain is alive and continues to work. At least that’s what Buckingham Palace says,” writes the Mash.

The Kremlin’s own newspaper, Rossiyskaya Gazette, published by Vladimir Putin’s executive (who won the Russian elections again), corrected the false story, however. “King Charles III continues to work and deal with private matters, Buckingham Palace said. Many Telegram channels published false and unverified information about the monarch’s death.”

On Twitter, Carlos’ alleged death was also a topic, with a video of the Buckingham Palace flag flying at half-mast circulating, claiming that it was footage from Monday. However, the same Tracker Deep account says that the British flag will have already been placed in its normal position.

What is certain is that the mystery surrounding the British royal family continues to deepen. Diagnosed with cancer, Carlos III continues his royal duties and has frequently appeared on social media, even to thank the British for their support. The 75-year-old monarch ascended the throne in September 2022, following the death of Elizabeth II, and was crowned on May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey, in London.

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, has not been officially seen in public since Christmas, and underwent abdominal surgery scheduled in January. The return to royal duties is announced for after Easter, despite the future queen’s schedule in site Windsor official remains without scheduled commitments until the end of the year.

Kensington Palace, which communicates with the Princes of Wales, has been under fire after sharing a photo of Kate with her three children on Mother’s Day. Some details of the image revealed that it had been edited and the main agencies, like Reuters, decided to take it offline, justifying that they had no explanation for the retouching.

Kate gave the explanation a little later — “Like many amateur photographers, I occasionally experiment with editing” — but the damage was already done, and almost everything served to question the veracity of the “doll”: from her blurred right hand right down to the zipper on your jacket.

Meanwhile, last Wednesday, a source at Kensington Palace gave an update to Harpers Bazaar about the princess’s health, revealing that she is “fine”. He added that Kate had even left Adelaide Cottage, the princes’ Windsor residence, at least three times in the past two weeks. During a walk, the source noted that she was “smiling, upbeat and enjoying time outdoors.”

Other news released by the tabloid press this Monday, without official confirmation, says that the princess was seen, this weekend, with William, on the property of Windsor Castle. Kate went shopping with William and looked happy and in a good mood”, reports the The Sun.
