Accident at the Tomaz Pelayo School intersection attracted the attention of onlookers

-

It is one of the most potentially problematic intersections in Santo Tirso, the intersection between Rua da Indústria, Rua São Bento da Batalha and Rua Prof. Dr. Fernando Augusto Pires de Lima, today was the scene of yet another road accident. This is the intersection that precedes Escola Secundária Tomaz Pelayo, an area with a lot of car traffic, especially on weekdays.

Last weekend a similar accident occurred and motorists’ fears are constant.

It is a very busy intersection where traffic lights were installed 25 years ago, due to the potential danger that existed. Due to the renovation work on part of Rua da Indústria, in front of the two schools, Escola Secundária Tomaz Pelayo and Escola EB 2,3 São Rosendo, these same traffic lights were removed and the roads were also narrower.

Although the recommended driving speed is now lower, the truth is that the apparent danger is greater and in the last four days there have been two accidents recorded.

This intersection and the changes in signage have even been a topic in Santo Tirso. In 30 Minutes, Castro Fernandes, Former President of the City Council warned, more than a year ago, of the potential danger that exists in this area.
