BYD has started pre-sales in China of the Yuan Up, the brand’s entry-level compact SUV. The model, which is similar to the Hyundai Creta and Volkswagen T-Cross, will be priced at 79,800 yuan, equivalent to approximately R$55,700 in direct conversion.
The model has not been confirmed for the Brazilian market, but it has a lot of potential to be offered in our market – including nationally manufactured. This way, its price would be between that of the Dolphin, which costs almost R$150 thousand, and the Yuan Plus, which costs R$230 thousand. In other words, the expectation is that the newcomer will cost around R$180,000 here – a value compatible with the top options of Crete (Ultimate, for R$181,990) and T-Cross (Highline, for R$175,990) .
What is Yuan Up like?
In terms of design, the Yuan Up features elements reminiscent of other cars from the brand such as the Yuan Plus and the Song L crossover. At the front, the bumper has elements reminiscent of BMW’s style. In addition, it also features tapered LED headlights, a high beltline and recessed door handles. At the back, the bumper follows the design of the front and there are also LED taillights.
The compact SUV measures 4.31 meters long, 1.83 m wide, 1.67 m high and has a wheelbase of 2.62 m. As a comparison, a Creta is 4.29 in length and 2.59 m in wheelbase, so the measurements are very similar. Inside, the highlight – as in all BYD cars – is the multimedia center with a 12.8-inch rotating screen. In addition, there is an 8.8” digital instrument panel, synthetic leather seats, panoramic roof and head-up display and induction cell phone charger.
Under the hood, the entry-level model features an electric motor that delivers 95 hp with a 32 kWh battery (and a range of 300 km, according to Chinese measurement standards) or 45.1 kWh (a range of 400 km under the same conditions). However, there is a 177 hp engine option – probably with a second engine.
