The Minister of Justice and Public Security Ricardo Lewandowski stated this Tuesday (19) that the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes approved Ronnie Lessa’s plea bargain to uncover the murders of councilwoman Marielle Franco and her driver, Anderson Gomes, in 2018. In a press conference, Lewandowski also stated that “we will soon have concrete results” from the investigation.

Marielle and Anderson were executed six years ago, completed on March 14 of this year. The investigations seek to answer the question of who ordered Marielle to be killed and why.

The plea bargain by Lessa, the ex-PM responsible for the shooting, is being processed in secret, and Lewandowski stated that he did not have access. “But we know that this award-winning collaboration, which is the means of obtaining evidence, brings extremely important elements that lead us to believe that we will soon have a solution to the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco”, declared Lewandowski.

The minister also congratulated the actions of the Federal Police, which took over the case in 2023, because “in one year it achieved concrete results in this investigation”. He also highlighted the actions of the Federal Public Ministry and the State Public Ministry, which “worked within their responsibilities, collaborating with the Federal Police”.

“I can assure you, ladies and gentlemen, that this procedure strictly followed due legal process and that we soon think we will have concrete results”, reinforced the Minister of Justice.

The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police was in charge of the case, but in 2023 it began to be handled by the Federal Police (PF). On the 14th, the investigations reached the STF because the person responsible for the crime could be an authority with privileged jurisdiction.

In addition to Ronnie Lessa, they are also arrested for participating in the crime Elcio de Queirozwho drove the car that followed Marielle and Anderson; Maxwell Simões, who helped to disappear the weapons used; It is Edilson Barbosawho dismantled the car driven by Elcio.

On January 23, the Intercept Brazil reported Ronnie Lessa’s plea bargain with the PF, and that the former PM had appointed the advisor to the Rio de Janeiro Court of Auditors Domingos Brazão as the mastermind of the crime. However, no name was mentioned by Lewandowski at the press conference. In 2023, the investigation was sent to the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) due to suspicions of Brazão’s participation in the crime.
