It is increasingly difficult to live in an “abandoned Alentejo” where “there are a lot of good people going hungry”

-

The increase in the cost of living is across society as a whole, but in the most unprotected areas, such as Alto Alentejo, the difficulties are even more pronounced and the calm of the days contrasts with the population’s lack of hope.

Low pensions, in an increasingly aging population and losing momentum in numbers, leave the population with little margin in their family budgets. In Portalegre, one of the districts where the country’s asymmetries are most felt, there is a lack of opportunities.

Fixing populations, attracting investment and creating jobs would be the desired remedies so that families would have less difficulty paying their bills, but everything seems to contribute to worsening the disease of interiority. Naturally, the population demands responsibility from political decision-makers.

If, in Portugal, three out of every four families live in financial difficulties, the balance is even more negative in Alentejo where there is a lack of solutions to improve income.
