UA man, from Texas, USA, was declared “brain dead”, with only a “4% chance of surviving”, after trying to remove an ingrown hair, reports the Metro newspaper.
According to the GoFundMe created by the patient’s sister, Steven Spinale, 36, suffered septicemia (generalized infection) after trying to remove an ingrown hair from his groin, and had to be placed in an induced coma at the end of 2022.
Steven spent a month in a coma, intubated, to see if his body could recover. However, he ended up catching flu A and pneumonia, which made his situation worse. Although the doctors thought that the North American was “brain dead” and informed the family that he only had a “4% chance of surviving”, the family never stopped believing in his recovery.
After a series of procedures and treatments, Steven came out of the coma without brain damage. A true miracle, according to the doctors. Today, another year after his life was at risk, he has almost completely recovered.
The man, who is already at home, is now counting on his family’s help to relearn how to walk and carry out other tasks necessary for his daily life. To do this, he needs some monetary help, as his brother explained in the fundraiser created on GoFundMe.
