A Brazilian, identified as Diego Cardoso de Oliveira40 years old, the Portuguese wife Matilde Ramos Pinto38 years old, and his son Joaquim Ramos Pinto de Oliveiraaged 1, died after being run over by a 78-year-old woman while they were at a bus stop in San Francisco, in the United States.

The couple’s 2-month-old baby Cauê Ramos Pinto de Oliveira, who was also in the car, was rescued in serious condition, but did not survive. The death was confirmed on Wednesday (20) by the newspaper “San Francisco Chronicle” with a representative of the municipal Legislative branch. Accident at the bus stop

The police are trying to understand whether the driver, Mary Fong Lau, had a medical emergency, was swerving around something, was distracted or was negligent with traffic laws. Vehicle failures are also a possibility.

She was hospitalized and detained by local police and charged with manslaughter while driving a motor vehicle, reckless driving resulting in injury and traffic law violations.

Questioned by g1, the driver’s defense denied that she was under the influence of alcohol or medication at the time of the incident. The lawyer, Samuel Gellerdid not want to talk about the allegations that the car was going the wrong way and at high speed.

According to Geller, the driver has already been released by the police, but remains hospitalized. He told g1 that the client was injured, but without serious injuries and, as soon as she is discharged, she will be able to go home. Despite being detained, she has not yet been charged, as investigations are ongoing.

Asked about his client’s statement to the police, Geller said he cannot yet talk about the matter. He was also unable to say whether Lau’s family is providing any type of support to the victims’ relatives.
