Everyone has secrets they can only share with certain people or keep entirely to themselves – and one man was left shaken by something his father said on his deathbed. While his father was extremely frail and had difficulty expressing himself clearly, he suggested that the man might not be his biological son – and this confession left him with many more questions than answers.

Writing for Deidre Sanders, known as the British tabloid’s relationship “love counselor” The Sun, the man reported that shortly before his father died, he began “talking about the past,” and what he revealed rocked his world – especially since his mother had passed away two years earlier. He explained that he has always had a “normal family life” and that he has two younger sisters. The son explained that his father started talking about how excited he was to see his mother, who had passed away years ago – describing a time when she “hurt” him.

“Then he said he forgave her and that he loved me as much as the girls,” the 60-year-old wrote. His father then became “confused” about what he had said, and when he tried to press him for information, his father acted as if he had no idea what his son was referring to.

The man explained that his father had passed away soon after, but he was finding it “difficult to grieve” because he didn’t know the truth – and was worried that he would never be able to find out anything, as all his relatives from that generation had died.

Deidre responded to the man, explaining that she understood why he was so upset about the situation, suggesting a “DNA test” to compare his DNA to that of his sisters. “But think about it. If you find out he wasn’t your father, it might make you feel worse,” she warned.

She also highlighted that being a father is “much more than DNA”, saying that her father “loved him”, and that will not change, whether he is biologically her father or not. She also recommended counseling so he could accept what her father told him before he passed away.
