Rui Martins was working for a solar panel company when the accident occurred.
The work accident that resulted in the death of Rui Martins, 40 years old, one of the musicians from the band Santos & Pecadores, is being tried in the Santarém Court. This is a crime of violating safety rules, aggravated by the result, in which the company that hired him, Pye – Poweryieldenergia, based in Montemor-o-Novo, and the two managing partners, aged 33 and 42 years.
Rui Martins died on May 14, 2021, while washing solar panels on the roof of a factory in Tremês, Santarém. The musician placed his foot on a translucent plate, which broke, and died immediately when he fell helplessly to the floor of the warehouse, says the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) indictment.
After investigating the accident, the MP concluded that the victim did not have personal protective equipment against the risk of falling from a height, as it had never been provided to him by the company he had worked for since December 2020. On the day of the accident, he was working without mandatory means of restraint to prevent falling, such as a harness or safety belt. Furthermore, she did not have the necessary training to safely maintain solar panels.Rui Martins found this work during the pandemic, when there were no shows. He was a musician by profession and was part of the well-known band Santos & Pecadores, alongside Olavo Bilac, Pedro Cunha, Pascoal Simões, Artur Santos and Pedro Almeida.
