According to Flixbus, the double-decker vehicle was carrying 53 passengers, as well as two drivers, who were rescued alive.

The German news agency dpa reported that the accident happened on the A9 highway, near Leipzig, when the vehicle left the road for reasons still unknown, entering an area of ​​vegetation on the side of the road before falling into a ditch. To dpa, the police said that no other vehicle was involved in the accident, which occurred at around 9:45 am local time (1:45 pm in Brasília).

Mobilization of hospitals

Only after three hours were the authorities who responded to the incident able to lift the bus and retrieve the bodies of the dead from inside the vehicle. Some helicopters were also mobilized to quickly treat the injured.

Hospitals in the region prepared for a large influx of patients. Leipzig University Hospital received 11 injured people, one of them is in the Intensive Care Unit.

When contacted, Flixbus expressed its solidarity with the victims, said it was working to clarify the episode quickly and stated that the driver who was driving the bus at the time of the accident had been at the wheel since leaving Berlin at 8am and had respected all breaks. planned for the trip.
