The second stage of the Kenda Cup in the 2024 season approaches with new features and also reasons for extra celebration on the part of its organization. The event scheduled for May 5th had its host city confirmed, the municipality of Ouro Fino (MG), a very special city for the organizers, since it was there that the competition began, still called Ouro Biker, between 2019 and 2021.
“We are very happy to reach the tenth edition of our race in Cidade do Menino da Porteira, Ouro Fino. The race will be held at the Arena de Ouro, which is a gigantic municipal events space, with more than 35 thousand square meters. The infrastructure is fantastic, which will mean that the second stage of the Kenda Cup this year will feature one of the largest structures in its history to date. Awards stage with musical shows, food court, Kenda Cup experiences, ranging from Pit Stop Kenda, Support Park Tool, Algoo Bike Wash, massage area and everything else”, celebrated Nathan Morais, organizer of the race.
“It is worth highlighting that it is a complete event, thinking about the entire family. So, on Saturday afternoon we have the first activity during kit collection, which is the Absolute Kids Race. We will also have musical attractions, with shows starting on Saturday, the day on which we will extend the program a little further, to celebrate that we are reaching 10 editions of the race. In other words, we will reach Ouro Fino for Kenda Cup #10 in style”, added the organizer.
As is customary in the Kenda Cup, there will be three distances – Pro (50 km and 1,500 m elevation), Sport (42 km and 1,120 m elevation) and Light (30 km and less than 1,000 m elevation) – passing through several iconic places in the city, which cyclists really enjoy cycling. Pedra do Itaguaçu, one of the main tourist attractions with more than 1,500 meters of altitude, which overlooks more than 15 cities in the region. Vale da Neblina, Floresta Escura and Bairro do Taboão, the city’s most touristic neighborhood, which has waterfalls and typical festivals, are also among the highlights of the race.
“The whole city of Ouro Fino is very excited about this news, because Ouro Fino breathes bikes. The municipality has a long history with bicycles. It was in Ouro Fino that Ouro Biker was born. Hundreds of people pass through the city every day on the Caminho da Fé, that is, many already know it and are used to visiting it. Not to mention that all public sectors, as well as private companies, are wanting to participate and encourage local sport”, concluded Nathan Morais.

The history of the Kenda Cup
The first edition of the Kenda Cup was held in May 2022, in Socorro (SP). The municipality would also receive the opening editions again, in 2023 and 2024, thus totaling 3 editions in the city. Still in 2022, two more stages: Bueno Brandão and Itapira, cities that also hosted the Kenda Cup in 2023. While Amparo made its debut on the circuit in 2023, Bueno Brandão was responsible for hosting a unique event: the 3-day ultramarathon Kenda Stages, which will take place again in November 2024. Thus, 9 editions of the event have already been held: three in 2022, five in 2023 and the first in 2024.
The embryonic event
Before starting, still under the name of Kenda Open Cup MTB, the event had its first steps taken by the organization, when holding the Ouro Biker, always in Ouro Fino. In 2019, the organization held the Ouro Biker, in a single stage. The competition was repeated successfully in the following two years (2020/2021), amid the Covid-19 Pandemic, with a total of three more competitions held.
From 2022 onwards, the updated version – with the counting of points accumulated in stages to define the annual champions – began, with the Kenda Open Cup MTB. Thus, for the 2024 season, the sixth in the event’s history, there was a small change, reducing and simplifying the name of the event to Kenda Cup.
