After ten consecutive weeks of decline, average prices for paddy rice in Rio Grande do Sul rose again, according to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea) at Esalq/USP.

The Cepea/Irga-RS indicator ended the last week of March at around R$99 per 50-kilo bag, a slight increase of 0.25% in the weekly comparison.

According to Cepea researchers, the support came from the reduction in the supply of raw materials, in a scenario of relatively greater demand. In general, business remains punctual. On the producer side, some report not having grains available, due to adverse weather conditions.

The interest of trading companies in the port of Rio Grande (RS), in turn, has been heating up, favored by the appreciation of the dollar. However, negotiations carried out on the spot or via forward contracts for export were also restricted, limited by the disparity in prices and payment terms offered by agents in the domestic and foreign markets, as Cepea researchers indicate.
