After experiencing instability this Wednesday (3/4), WhatsApp started working again this afternoon, around 3:30 pm. The web version even presented a screen with a “service unavailable” warning for anyone trying to use the platform on the desktop.

On the Downdetector website there was a spike in reports of failures, with 7,116 notifications, with problems sending messages, connecting to the server and website.

In addition to Minas, there were reports of failures in Bahia, Pernambuco, São Paulo, Paraná and Rio Grande do Sul.

Users rushed to Twitter to try to understand what happened to WhatsApp and, of course, flooded the social network with memes about the messaging app’s failure:

The report of The time contacted the company and is awaiting an official position from the platform.

See what the application options are when WhatsApp goes down:

  • SIGNAL: Signal is considered among experts to be the most privacy-protective. Without the possibility of screen capture and with strong encryption, the messenger is widely used by activists and journalists due to the possibility of deleting content without traces.
  • TWITTER: The short text social network has public conversation in its DNA, but it is possible to send direct and private messages to registered users.
  • LINKEDIN: Just like Twitter, LinkedIn wasn’t created specifically for quick chat. It is a network for professional contacts and publications, but it is possible to send messages to friends and membership in Brazil is high, so there is a chance of finding acquaintances easily on the network.
  • DISCORD: Discord is a platform for group activities, such as playing video games and discussing different topics. It is possible to create meeting rooms and make video calls. The downside is that it is not yet that popular in Brazil, so it is more difficult to find close contacts.
  • HANGOUTS: Google’s Gmail chat has fallen into disuse in recent years with the possibility of making video calls through Meets, also from Google. However, as email is the most used by Brazilians, it is possible that your message will ring on the cell phone of someone you know.
  • TIK TOK: The short video network allows you to exchange messages with friends, although the spaces are more dedicated to comments and public interactions. Very popular among young people in Brazil, the platform is not considered easy to use by those born before generation Z.
