RECENT FORM VS. CHARLOTTE FC

This series is still in its infancy, as Saturday night’s showdown will be just the fifth meeting between the Revs and Charlotte FC since the visitors’ expansion season in 2022. Charlotte’s only win in the series came in the first-ever meeting in March 2022 – coincidentally the first win in club history – with New England claiming three straight victories since. That includes triumphs in both of the previous contests at Gillette Stadium, both won by 2-1 scorelines.

The Revs enter the weekend still in search of their first win in the MLS campaign, though they did pick up their first point of the season two weeks ago in a 1-1 draw with Chicago Fire FC. Nacho Gil scored his first MLS goal as the Revs came from behind that afternoon at Gillette Stadium, but the hosts were unable to find a winner despite a dominant second-half performance. More recently, New England began their two-legged series with Club América in the Concacaf Champions Cup Quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Foxborough, suffering a 4-0 loss to the reigning Liga MX champions.

Fresh off their first-ever playoff appearance last year, Charlotte FC are off to a solid start under the leadership of new head coach Dean Smith, going 2-2-2 through the season’s first six games. That stretch includes results in each of their last two games against the Columbus Crew (2-0 win) and FC Cincinnati (1-1 draw), both of last year’s Eastern Conference finalists. Smith, who previously coached five different clubs in England, has Charlotte FC playing with a strong defensive identity, scoring just six goals but conceding just five through their opening six games.

Saturday’s match will close out a stretch of four straight home games in all competitions for the Revs, who’ll now be on the road for five of their next six through mid-May, including trips to Mexico City, New York City, Toronto, Chicago, and New Jersey.
