A man, who participated in the Horseback Pilgrimage between Moita and Viana do Alentejo, died in the early afternoon of this Wednesday, after being hit by the spear of a cart, during a rest stop in the procession, in Landeira, Vendas Novas . The news was reported by Correio da Manhã and confirmed by O SETUBALENSE.

From what SETUBALENSE found, near a source that is part of the procession, the victim, from Montemor-o-Novo, was “hit in the head by the spear of a cart that was dragged by two horses, which got scared and let go running when they were to be unpaired.”

The severity of the injuries led to an INEM helicopter being called to the emergency room, but the victim died at the scene.

Correio da Manhã reports, based on a Civil Protection source, that the alert for the occurrence was received at 12:28 pm and that 15 operational personnel and six vehicles from the Águas de Moura and Vendas Novas Fire Department were also involved in the relief actions, in addition to the INEM and GNR. In addition to the fatal victim, one was also injured.

The parade, confirmed O SETUBALENSE, has now resumed.
