After several days of sun and heat, the weather begins to change from this Thursday afternoon with the return of rain, a sharp drop in temperatures and the possibility of snow in the highest points of Minho, according to the Instituto Português do Mar and Atmosphere (IPMA).

Starting today, “there will be a change in the location of the anticyclone that has been influencing the weather in our territory, allowing the approach of a depression system to the north of the Iberian Peninsula”, says the IPMA in a statement.

And he adds: “The circulation that will be established will transport a mass of colder air, lowering temperature values, especially the maximum, in the mainland and which will also extend to the Madeira archipelago”.

The IPMA highlights that, “in addition to the gradual drop in temperature, the wind will also increase in intensity and precipitation will return” today, remaining “at least” until Sunday.

As MINHO reported, due to the significant drop in temperature and the occurrence of precipitation, it is possible that snowfall will occur in the highlands of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, from a height of 1,200 meters.

Snowfall is most likely between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

The first drops of rain are expected to begin falling in the early afternoon today, in Braga, but on Friday the precipitation will intensify.

Temperatures will drop, in the next few days, in Braga and Viana do Castelo, to values between 14ºC and 16ºC.

Minimum temperatures will drop to 7ºC.
