After a dog died during Gol air transport, the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), asked the company for explanations. The notification requires the company to provide clarifications within two days. Joca’s Tutor, João Fantazzini claims that the animal only had veterinary permission to travel for almost 3 hours and did not survive 8 hours of flight after a series of errors by Gol.

The case happened last Monday, the 22nd, and gained national commotion due to the airline’s negligence with the Golden Retriever dog. A day later, Gollog, which operates in Gol’s air transport, announced the suspension of transporting animals in the hold of aircraft.

In the document released by Senacon, the agency asks for clarification on the methodology and policy used in the movement of animals by the company. Gol must also provide other information about the repair procedures.

The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) should also be involved in the investigations. In the notification, Senacon asks the agency to formally monitor and participate in all procedures relating to the Joca case.

However, it is important to remember that Anac does not regulate the air transport of animals, except guide dogs. Resolution 280, of 2013, ensures that passengers with impaired vision board with animals in the plane cabin. This is not the case with Joca.

According to the secretary Wadih Damous, it is important that Anac makes its own regulations on the subject. “For all the reasons listed, we will recommend that Anac regulate the transport of pets and we will also request Senacon’s participation in drafting the resolution”, he reveals.

Senacon also explains that each airline has its own transport rules, which include the size and weight for the animal to travel in the cabin or hold of the aircraft. On its official channel, Gollog ensures that the rules for transporting animals in the hold follow the manual of the International Area Transport Association (IATA).

In the document that is still available on the company’s website, they also guarantee that the environment where the animals are kept would be safe, with air pressurization and a temperature of up to 15ºC.
