On the day that the Attorney General of the Republic went to Parliament to provide information to the country about the State of Justice and Legality in 2023, the death squads returned to the scene to try to claim yet another of their victims. This time, the prisoner was the Theologian Albino Manguene, who suffered an assassination attempt on Wednesday night (around 7:30 pm), as he left a religious service, at the Capela da Graça Christian Church, in the neighborhood of Hulene “A ”, on the outskirts of the City of Maputo.
According to Manguene, the group was made up of four men and was transported in a white double-cab vehicle with a South African registration plate. When passing by the vehicle, in the company of one of his assistants, the victim says that she was struck and then attacked with a baton in the neck area and then with a hammer on the foot.
In an interview with TV SUCESSO, one of the private television channels where he has stood out as a political analyst, the pastor states that the only reason his life was not taken away was because, on the one hand, he managed to escape and ask for help and, on the other, they went beyond the local people who immediately noticed the incident.
In his statements, the pastor said he had no doubt that he was the victim of an assassination attempt, with the aim of silencing him due to his critical approaches in the media. He states that, in his approaches, he has been honest, sincere and frontal, a fact that “may bother some who are directly mentioned”.
“So, I think it’s a way of retaliating, intimidating or something similar”, he defends, revealing that he had already been receiving threats that, in his opinion, were “soft”, as they presented “a friendly tone, a conversational tone, like who says ‘moderate the way you deal with some issues’ is not aggressive”.
Manguene guarantees that he reported the case to the police authorities and that, as a result of the attack, he did not suffer any fractures, according to the medical observation he received at the Mavalane General Hospital, in the country’s capital. He also guarantees that the attack will not silence him or whiten his mind. “Carta” failed to obtain any reaction from the Police.
It should be noted that Manguene is yet another political analyst to be a victim of death squads, after Ericino de Salema, José Macuane, Anastácio Matavel, Gilles Cistac, among others. (Letter)
