Accident in Namibia: ten of the 16 Portuguese injured have already been discharged from hospital

Ten Portuguese people who were injured in Wednesday’s accident in Namibia have already been discharged and should soon return to Portugal, the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities told Lusa today.

In the accident involving buses with tourists and caused the death of two Portuguese women, 16 other nationals were injured, six of whom are still under observation in an emergency care unit.

According to José Cesário, ten of the injured who were still hospitalized have already been discharged and should soon return to Portugalsome with the presence of Portuguese family members who traveled to Namibia to accompany them.

O Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities said that these citizens have been accompanied by the person in charge of the Portuguese consultation section which supports them, particularly in communication, as some do not speak English and are unable to communicate with the healthcare teams.

On Wednesday, the councilor for the Portuguese communities in the capital Windhoek confirmed that the accident occurred after 3pm (2pm in Lisbon), in the Kuiseb Valley, on the way to the largest sand dunes of Sossus Vley in the Namib Desert. .

The accident involved two buses, which were carrying 40 tourists, with at least 22 Portuguese tourists in one of the vehicles, said Manuel Coelho.

Of the 22 Portuguese people involved, two died at the scene.
