The Secretary General of the National Union of Workers of Guinea Central Sindical da Guiné – Central Sindical (UNTG-CS), Júlio Mendonça, protested against the increase in taxes and prices of basic necessities on the market.

In his address, on International Workers’ Day, celebrated this Wednesday, May 1st, Júlio Mendonça said that being “an illegitimate and unconstitutional government, it has no commitment to the people” and “cannot solve social problems, in particular of Central Guinea Workers”.

“We saw the increase in taxes, in democracy, for example, and then they do not respect [a democracia], increasing the prices of essential products on the market. We have a government without a program and that doesn’t care about the people’s sacrifices. For me, 2024 is the worst year”, said Júlio Mendonça, who took the opportunity to propose an “increase in public servants’ salaries”.

“They deceive, steal from the people and return with this good to buy consciences in the elections. We have to wake up and demand respect for Human Rights. The people themselves are responsible for everything and the workers in particular, we have to apply social pressure”, she insisted.

For Júlio Mendonça “if the people do not wake up, they will continue to live in misery”, urging society to reject conformity.
