sIt will be on May 21st that, in Portugal, HBO Max will change its name and the streaming service will be known simply as Max.
This service change has already happened in some markets where the service is present. In the case of the USA, HBO Max was renamed simply Max in May 2023. The change then took place in our country practically a year later. In addition to Portugal, this change will also take place in Spain, the Nordic Countries, Central and Eastern Europe.
This change also includes some changes regarding the plans available to customers.
The first is the Standard Planwhich allows users to watch Max content on two devices simultaneously, Full HD resolution and 30 downloads for offline playback.
There is also the Premium Planwhich features simultaneous viewing on four devices, up to 4K resolution with Dolby Atmos and up to 100 downloads for offline viewing.
There is still the Plano Sports, a new feature that will be available to add to any of the other two plans as a complement. The objective of this plan is to provide coverage of sporting events, such as the Tennis Grand Slam, the cycling Grand Tours, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and also the Europort 1 and Eurosport 2 channels. possible to attend the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Max will also come with a Basic Plan with Advertising which, as the name suggests, will display advertising while you are watching films, series and documentaries on the streaming service. This plan allows you to watch content on two devices simultaneously and enjoy it in Full HD resolution.
Max’s official statement states that this plan will only be available in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Romania, Poland, France and Belgium. Portugal does not appear on the list of these initial countries, but it is said that it will “expand to the rest” in the future.
With regard to current HBO Max subscribers, Max states that everyone will “have automatic access” to the new version of the streaming service.

We will then have to wait a little longer to find out if there will be price changes from HBO Max to Max.
