Dfter the Russian secret services stated that they had information that France was preparing to send 2,000 soldiers to Ukraine, Paris has already reacted, speaking of “disinformation” and an “irresponsible provocation” on Russia’s part.
According to the Russian state agency TASS, this Tuesday, the head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergei Naryshkin, claimed that France is preparing “a contingent to be sent to Ukraine”. “Initially, it will include around 2,000 soldiers,” he shot.
The Russian spy chief further threatened: “He will thus become a legitimate priority target for attacks by the Russian armed forces. This means that he will suffer the fate of all Frenchmen who have ever arrived in the Russian world with a sword.”
The French Ministry of Defense was quick to react. “The maneuver orchestrated by Sergei Naryshkin, director of the Russian secret services, illustrates once again the systematic use of disinformation by Russia,” said the French Ministry of Defense, in a statement cited by Reuters.
“We consider this type of provocation irresponsible,” he added.
It is recalled that, in recent weeks, relations between France and Russia have deteriorated even further, after Partis increased its support for Ukraine. Furthermore, French President Emmanuel Macron also adopted a tougher stance towards Moscow, not having ruled out sending European troops to Ukraine – although this stance did not generate consensus among Kyiv’s allies.
