The Polish Foreign Minister emphasizes that Moscow’s military and economic power is “insignificant compared to that of the West”

If the war in Ukraine escalated to NATO membership, Russia would face an “inevitable defeat”, the Polish Foreign Minister warned this Thursday.

“It is not we, the West, who should fear a confrontation with Putin, but rather the opposite,” said Radosław Sikorski, during a speech in the Polish parliament. “It is worth remembering this, not to increase the feeling of threat to the Russians, because NATO is a defensive pact, but to show that an attack by Russia on any of the members of the Alliance would end in its inevitable defeat”, he added.

Sikorski went further and even said that Moscow’s military and economic power is “insignificant compared to that of the West”. NATO, he added, has three times as many troops, three times as many air assets and four times as many ships as Russia.

“Putin’s only hope is our lack of determination”, he stressed.

The Prime Minister of Poland had also warned of the possibility of a conflict of this nature. Donald Tusk recently said that Europe is in a “pre-war era” and that there is a “long way to go” before it is prepared to face the approaching threat.

But Russia does not seem interested in involving NATO in the war, assured the Russian Defense Minister. “The Russian Federation has never threatened NATO. We have no geopolitical or military interests in attacking the bloc’s countries”, said Sergei Shoigu, considering, however, that it is the Alliance that is increasingly closer to Russian borders.

“It was not us who came to them, but they were the ones who came to us. This shows once again that we cannot trust Westerners. Now they reproach us by saying that if Russia is not stopped in Ukraine, we will allegedly attack the Alliance countries,” she replied.
