Arapongas City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Agriculture, Public Services and Environment (Seaspma) and the Environmental Defense Group (GDA), imposed two fines involving the disposal of solid waste in an inappropriate location. One of the incidents was recorded in Jardim San Raphael, where a truck driver was caught disposing of various waste at the bottom of a valley. The other incident took place in Jardim Santa Alice, with a person disposing of common and recyclable waste on the ground. Both cases were reported by the population.

FINES – Still according to Seaspma, combined penalties generate fines of more than R$6,000.00 – which corresponds to 10 UFAS each. Those involved were also notified to clean up and collect irregularly discarded materials.

The secretary of the department, Renan Manoel Rodrigues, reiterates the importance of complaints, flagrant and records of these irregularities. “Through complaints from the population and the act recorded in photos and videos, we were able to reach the perpetrators of each of the crimes. We are in a dengue epidemic and all irregular waste disposal contributes to the proliferation of dengue and other diseases, in addition to being disrespectful to the environment and the city we live in”, he reported.

The penalty varies depending on the type of damage caused by the release of waste (solid, liquid or gaseous), debris or oil into the environment.
