The Municipal Transport and Traffic Superintendency (SMTT) carried out this Wednesday (13) a traffic simulation at the intersection between the AL 220 highway and Avenidas Pio XII and Benjamin Freire. With the support of the Secretariat of Social Defense, Highway Police Battalion (BPRV), 3rd Military Police Battalion, State Public Prosecutor’s Office, Detran and Alagoas Highway Department (DER), the agency’s technical team was able to analyze the changes foreseen in the project in practice. Furthermore, more than 10 traffic agents and 5 SMTT vehicles organized the traffic flow together with the BPRV throughout the simulation.

The simulation took place early in the morning, taking the departure time of residents of the Massaranduba and Bom Sucesso neighborhoods. For SMTT Superintendent, Katiane Duarte, the simulation fulfilled its role of demonstrating what can work and what the problems are so that solutions can be thought of. “We were able to see in practice what the bottlenecks in that simulation were. We already knew what it could be, but we needed to do this so that, in practice, we could analyze how traffic would behave. I have a road limitation in that region and we tried to direct traffic, transforming the first two entrances to the neighborhood into one-way traffic so that residents could have a division of traffic and order there. We were also able to see, mainly, that Rua Benjamim Freire, as it had a free access loop, worked very well. It was one of the things we were very happy about. So, there was no accumulation of vehicles, vehicles entered the highway calmly, without any problems”, she assessed.

The technical action allowed the agency to collect data such as the variable of vehicle accumulation and waiting time, traffic light times, pedestrian crossings and vehicle counts and thus understand the demands for improvements in the region. “We understand that there needs to be improvements, one of which is speed reducers near the U-turns to give the driver more peace of mind when entering the highway and being able to pass in both lanes, especially for those who are going to enter a plateau neighborhood, we will request from DER that these reducers be implemented”, informed the superintendent.

The technical team will evaluate the data obtained in the simulation to advance the traffic project. According to Rodolfo Cavalcante, director of the Infrastructure Department at SMTT Arapiraca, simulation at busy times is necessary to capture the greater flow of vehicles circulating in the region. “From now on we will analyze and process the data collected, as well as analyze notes made by technicians and the population itself, in order to diagnose positive points that can be taken forward and other points that need to be corrected or readjusted”.
Integrated Network

The intervention in this section is due to the number of traffic accidents recorded in the region. To seek solutions, the State Public Prosecutor’s Office, together with SMTT Arapiraca, DER, Detran Alagoas, 3º BPM, BPRV, Operação Lei Seca, Agreste Emergency Hospital created the Integrated Life Support Network that has been coming since last year with actions to avoid accidents and save lives.

“We are together in this cool action led by SMTT of Arapiraca, which carried out a project here to improve traffic in the Igrejinha section, approved by DER, and with the support here of BPRV and 3rd BPM. This stretch here is a challenge for us, for all the traffic here, I think it is the reference point here for improving this situation. And this simulation here is very welcome, SMTT does a very serious job, with commitment, a lot of competence, and we hope that it will have positive effects, we are confident in that, and the Public Ministry is here, through the 4th Public Prosecutor’s Office, to provide support and be together in this moment of simulation that we are very confident about”, defended prosecutor Rogério Paranhos.
