The Bloco de Esquerda candidacy for the Leiria circle released, this Friday, its electoral manifesto for the district, with proposals covering areas such as health, housing, culture, mobility and territorial cohesion.

In the health area, BE defends the strengthening of the SNS throughout the district, combating the lack of family doctors that affects around 30% of the population in this territory. The blockers also come out in defense of the construction of the new hospital do Oeste in Bombarral, with the maintenance of the current units, reconverting them into proximity responses, such as consultations for some specialties, day hospital, rehabilitation treatments and continued care.

Still in the area of health, blockers understand that it is necessary to “maintain the Permanent Care Service” of Marinha Grande, as well as “structural investment in the buildings” of the Local Health Unit of the Leiria Region (former hospital center), in order to “ improve response capacity in pathologies/diseases with increasing incidence and prevalence”, such as oncological, cardiovascular and osteoarticular diseases.

In relation to education, the manifesto proposes, for example, the reinforcement of the Polytechnic of Leiria, “with an increase in its capabilities depending on the needs of the territory”, and the implementation of “an emergency plan” that guarantees accommodation at controlled costs “ to all displaced students.”

BE’s candidacy for Leiria also defends the restoration and improvement of access to public services in municipalities in the interior and rural areas, the reinforcement of municipal budgets in the territories most affected by fires and depopulation, the expansion of the long-term care network in the district and the creation of a public network of Residential Structures for the Elderly (ERPI).

In the culture sector, blocists believe it is necessary to regionalize support, “as a guarantee of decentralization of cultural production and offer, with increased investment in municipalities in the interior of the district”, as well as ensuring that each municipality has a cinema room and/or suitable theater/concert room. BE also defends the creation of museum and “extension networks, with active exhibition programs in the district that circulate in each municipality”.

To protect the region’s water resources, BE calls for “strengthening supervision and penalization of all polluting activities in waterways and river basins”, accompanied by an increase in treatment capacity.

The blockers also defend the safeguarding of the Óbidos Lagoon, with permanent dredging and “regulation and sustainable planning of its uses”. It is also proposed to carry out an updated registry of water supply and sanitation infrastructures, with district mapping of needs.

In terms of agro-forestry planning, the blockers propose the creation of a public test field for the ecological transition in the north of the district, the recovery of the Leiria, Pedrógão and Urso National Forests, the creation of a nursery and public seed bank and the recovery of the corps of forest guards and nature watchers.

In the area of mobility, in addition to the ongoing requalification and electrification of the Linha do Oeste, blockers highlight the need to link road and rail transport and to create intermodal monthly passes with sub-regional coverage, similar to Navegante or Andante in Lisbon. and in Porto.

The BE district manifesto also proposes the creation of specialized courts for domestic violence and LGBTI+ reference centers.
