“Hotels and restaurants hire more and more immigrants”
Hotels started hiring staff for the high season earlier than usual and many did so in December or January, to safeguard the peak period, which starts at Easter. Despite the caution in anticipating new records for 2024, due to the uncertain international situation, hotel groups are, in general, with bookings above last year, and one of their concerns is having enough workers to meet the strong demand from tourists which is expected.

“Works improve Portela but keep flights tight”
The old Portela airport, in Lisbon, will go into construction at the end of this year, with changes to the sign, terminal 1 (south zone) and the runway. Works will be visible from the second ring road. However, these are works that will only add improvements to operations and passenger comfort, and not more flights and more capacity, as airlines and the tourism sector would like.

“TAP is the most punctual in Lisbon”
2024 promises to be another year of increased demand in the aviation sector and TAP remains limited in its growth due to the restrictions of the restructuring plan and the scarcity of slots at Lisbon airport. It currently operates with 99 planes – nine fewer than in 2019, but two more than in 2023. It is growing and has stopped resorting to hiring planes from other companies.
