Fernando Pessanha wins 4th edition of the Historical Essay Award from the Union of Parishes of Faro

The Algarve historian Fernando Pessanha is the winner of the 4th edition of the Historical Essay Prize of the Union of Parishes of Faro, a title awarded by the jury, made up of Jorge Carrega (president), Andreia Fidalgo and Luís Filipe Oliveira, professors at the Faculty of Human Sciences and Social Studies at the University of Algarve.

The jury unanimously decided that “The knight Rui Valente: a pirate and privateer from Faro in the 15th century Algarve” is «a meritorious work that represents an important contribution to the history of Faro and whose scientific quality is unquestionable», having which is why 1st place was awarded.

The award also provides for the publication of the work, which will be carried out in the second half of the year by the União de Freguesias.

Bruno Lage, president of the Union of Parishes of Faro, highlights that «this award is a strong contribution to the appreciation and increase of historical knowledge about the city, being at the same time a stimulus to carry out more research work in Faro, allowing a more robust and comprehensive knowledge of the history and identity of this important ancient city».
