To celebrate World Tree Day (March 21) and Theater Day (March 27) with the school community, Vila Nova de Cerveira City Council, with the support of the School Group, programmed two interactive educational activities for those around 550 pre-school and 1st cycle students in the municipality.

“The last week of the 2nd academic period is also marked with a sweet flavor, with the delivery of an Easter chocolate to students of all levels of education”, the municipality said today.

“The importance of raising awareness among young people about protecting the environment, committing them to the future, led the municipality of Cerveira to promote tree planting in each school center, with the presence and help of pre-school and primary school children. ”.

The initiative kicked off this Monday, in Campos, with the planting of nine fruit trees (Macieiras, Pereiras, Ameixoeiras), 1 white mulberry tree and a garden plum tree.

The Councilor for Education, Sónia Guerreiro followed the action closely, saying that “children are the future and, when they are involved in these initiatives, naturally they contribute to safeguarding the common future”. And she left a challenge: “The trees are right in front of your classrooms, so you can’t forget them. Your task is to take care of them, making them grow.”

On Wednesday, the activity was replicated at the Cerveira School Center, with the planting of four garden plum trees; and this Thursday, World Tree Day, it was the turn to raise awareness among the children at Escola Básica de S. Sebastião, Covas, with a slightly different action, taking advantage of the green patch in which they are located. The challenge was to reforest an area in the neighboring parish of Mentrestido with 300 oak trees.

In turn, to celebrate the month dedicated to theater, the show “Reis, Rainhas e Reinos” will be, throughout this week, in the three school centers in the municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira, sharing moments of fun, but also a strong didactic component. Based on the history of Portugal, the animated reading transports children to the legends created from charismatic figures, such as Queen Santa Isabel, the Baker of Aljubarrota and others, using creative and comic expression without neglecting the veracity of our past.

The ‘icing on the cake’ was delivered by the Councilor for Education, Sónia Guerreiro to all students, teaching and non-teaching staff in public and private education in the municipality.
