MotoGP Portugal. Miguel Oliveira in 8th in the first training session

-

Miguel Oliveira led the session but ended up with the 8th best time, doing his best lap in 1:41.107 minutes, 0.623 seconds behind the fastest.

The Spaniard, completing his second race on a Gresini Ducati, stopped the clock at 1:40.484 minutes, the fastest of all who also had Maverick Viñales (at 0.165) and Brad Binder (at 0.205) in the top three positions.

The session was marked by dirt on the track, as a result of the rain that fell over that region of the Algarve during the night.

A situation that had already led to the interruption of the Moto3 session, early in the morning, when there were still 12 minutes to go.

With the track still damp from the night’s rain, only Spaniard David Muñoz (BOE) risked leaving the pits, but for a short time.

As a result of forecasts of good weather for the rest of the weekend, the drivers understood that there was no justification for running on a track that still had traces of water.

Little concern for the times

The stewards were tireless cleaning the asphalt and the Moto2 session was already running normally.

Spaniard Manuel González (QJMOtor Gresini) was the fastest, leaving second place, Albert Arenas (QJMOtor Gresini), at 0.588 seconds, with Fermin Aldeguer (Speed Up) in third, at 0.698.

In MotoGP, since this session does not count towards qualifying the top 10 directly for Q2, times were not a concern.

In the afternoon session, which is already used to define the positions for the qualifying session, the drivers will attempt faster laps.

Today, Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati) was sixth, 0.422 behind Márquez, with two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) not going beyond the 13th record of the morning.

The Portuguese MotoGP GP is the second of 21 races in the Speed World Championship and will take place until Sunday at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão.

The MotoGP teams return to the track in the middle of the afternoon, at 3pm, for the official training session.
