Western embassies, including Portugal, warned two weeks ago of a possible terrorist attack in Moscow.

On March 8, the United States (US) Embassy in the Russian capital said it was “monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts.” He asked people to avoid crowds and pay attention to the news, without elaborating on the nature of the threat.

The following day, the Portuguese Embassy in Moscow urged Portuguese people in Russia to avoid “places with large concentrations of people”, following “information about the recent neutralization of an attempted terrorist attack”.

The United Kingdom Embassy also published a notice on the internet and assured that it was monitoring the situation. Subsequently, other embassies, such as those of Germany, the Netherlands and Latvia, asked citizens to take additional security measures.

This Friday, a shooting inside the Crocus City Hall theater caused at least 18 deaths and 43 injuries and set fire to the concert hall.
