GP Portugal. Miguel Oliveira will start from 15th place

This Saturday, Italian Enea Bastianini (Ducati) secured pole position for the MotoGP Portuguese Grand Prix, the second race of the motorcycling world championship, while Portuguese Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) will start from 15th place.

At the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA), in Portimão, the transalpine rider set his best time in 1.37.706 minutes, with Spaniard Marevick Viñales (Aprilia) being second, at 0.082 seconds, and also Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati ) in third, at 0.106.

Miguel Oliveira will start from 15th place, after not having gone beyond the fifth best time in the first qualifying session (Q1), with 1.38.385 minutes, thus failing to be present in Q2, in which the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), current two-time MotoGP champion, finished fourth, with 1.37.922.

Also noteworthy is the seventh place (1.38, 138 minutes) obtained by the Spaniard Pedro Acosta (Gas Gas), debutant in the premier class, who was immediately ahead of his compatriot Marc Márquez (Ducati), six times MotoGP champion, who completed his fastest lap in 1,38,147 minutes.

After qualifying is complete, the drivers in the main category of the World Speed Championship also face the sprint race (12 laps), starting at 3:00 pm, a new feature introduced last season in the championship.

In Moto2, Spaniard Manuel González (QJMotor) set the best time at 1.41.716 minutes, followed by Italian Tony Arbolino (ELF Marc), who was 0.115 seconds behind, and Spaniard Alonso Lopez (Speed Up), third fastest, to 0.167.

In Moto3, Australian Joe Kelso (BOE) was the fastest in free practice, completing his fastest lap in 1.47.175 minutes, with Spaniard Jose Rueda (KTM) at 0.147 seconds, in second position, and the Colombian David Alonso (Aspar), who, on Friday, had been the fastest, in third, at 0.311.

Miguel Oliveira is the only Portuguese to compete in the World Speed Championship and arrives in Portimão, where he already won in 2020, in 15th position in the competition, with a point achieved in the opening race, in Qatar.

The Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix, the second of 21 world championship races, will take place until Sunday at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA), in Portimão.
