The café O lanheiro, on Ilha, in the municipality of Pombal, will host, tomorrow, the 24th, the gathering “Stories of April in the taverns”. The aim is, given the “undeniable enormous educational, social and economic progress”, to debate what has actually changed in the 50 years after the military coup of April 25, 1974.

The lanheiro, a “tavern with over 100 years” of existence, opens up to five guests, in a conversation where everyone can participate, recovering the tradition of thinking about the village and “the world in a progressive and free way, similar to what happened in the 60s and 70s of the 20th century”.

“We will hear stories of real people, of poverty, of the privileged, of new and old things, of war, of overseas provinces and of the desire to want a better life for everyone”, says the organizer, Luís Couto.

The guests of this meeting are Artur Carreira, who fled the Colonial War, Isabel Fernandes who survived the confusion of Angolan independence, Amândio Neves who was thrilled with the 25th of April, António Moderno, who was part of the Administrative Committee of the Chamber of Pombal for the first free local elections, and António Couto, former resident of Ultramar.
