Open to everyone, without anyone. The bookstore in Ponte de Lima where books can be paid for in the store next door

It’s called ‘Livrearia’ and is located in Largo da Matriz, in the heart of Ponte de Lima. It is there that Manuel Pimenta sees his dream of having a bookstore come true, where there is no room for anything other than books and everyone who wants to read and buy them.

In the words of the owner, “it is a unique space in the world. There is no one, no cash register and he is in charge of all of us”. The concept, without employees, arises from an idea of freedom and trust, where the reader, if they want to take a book, can make payment in some of the stores in the square.

The second-hand books, most of which were donated to the Bookstore, are all numbered and personalized with the space’s brand, which makes the store a tourist attraction, in addition to the famous Sarrabulho.

In addition to his passion for books, Manuel Pimenta, a pharmacist, has always been a lover of art in general and therefore wants to transform the Bookstore into a cultural space, where, in addition to books, there is also space for some concerts, poetry readings, among others. performances and, therefore, the money raised from book sales already has a destination: holding artistic events.
