Between Monday and Wednesday, these seven districts are under yellow warning due to sea unrest, with the forecast of “northwest waves measuring four to five meters”

Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under orange warning due to maritime unrest, IPMA reported this Sunday, placing 16 districts of mainland Portugal on yellow warning due to snow, precipitation or strong wind.

The orange warning, the second most serious on a scale of three, applies to the seven districts of the north and center of the coast of mainland Portugal due to maritime unrest, between 12:00 on Tuesday and 03:00 on Wednesday, in which “northwest waves of five to seven meters are expected, reaching a maximum height of 12 meters”, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

Between Monday and Wednesday, these seven districts, as well as Faro, Setúbal, Beja and the Autonomous Region of Madeira, in particular the north coast and Porto Santo, are under yellow warning due to maritime unrest, with the forecast of ” northwest waves with four to five meters”.

The snowfall forecast, between Monday and Tuesday, affects 11 of the 18 districts of mainland Portugal, namely Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga, which are under yellow warning.

According to IPMA, in these 11 districts “snowfall above 600/800 meters is expected, with accumulation above 800/1,000 meters, which could be five centimeters above 800 meters”, which could lead to disturbances caused by snowfall with accumulation and possible ice formation, for example, “conditioned or closed roads, damage to structures or trees, impaired local supplies”.

There is also a yellow warning due to “rainfall, sometimes heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind”, between 18:00 this Sunday and 03:00 Monday, for the districts of Évora, Faro and Beja, alerted the institute responsible for the national meteorological service.

In addition to the alerts for sea unrest, snow and precipitation, there is a yellow warning for strong winds, which applies to the districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga, between Monday and Friday and Tuesday, informed IPMA.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation, while the orange warning, the second most serious, is issued whenever there is a meteorological situation of moderate to high risk.
