Marcelo regains power to dissolve Madeira Parliament

-

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, regains this Monday the power to dissolve the Parliament of Madeira, six months after the regional elections.

The Regional Government of Madeira has been in management since the beginning of February, after the President of the Executive resigned in January.

Miguel Albuquerque was named as a defendant in the process regarding suspected corruption in the region.

Madeira went to elections in September 2023 and, for the following six months, the President could not dissolve the Regional Assembly.

The representative of the Republic announced that he would keep the Government of Madeira in management until the head of State decides whether to dissolve the Legislative Assembly.

To do this, you will first have to listen to the nine parties represented in the Madeiran Parliament and the Council of State.

Miguel Albuquerque re-elected president of PSD/Madeira

Last Thursday, Miguel Albuquerque was re-elected president of the PSD/Madeira with 54.3% of the votes.

Albuquerque won the internal elections, defeating his opponent, Manuel António Correia, by 2,246 votes against 1,854, among 4,388 registered voters, indicated the party secretariat.

With this victory, Albuquerque says he is ready to go to regional elections and that the result legitimizes the leadership.
