The Braga Half Marathon is back, in an edition that promises to be even more exciting, with a series of new features and the inclusion of national championships. Scheduled for April 7th, this “celebration of sport and community” will feature not only the traditional Half Marathon race, but also a 6 km mini marathon, non-competitive, aimed at participants of all ages and different levels of physical fitness.

The program also features a 5km race, offering runners a new opportunity to challenge their limits and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the event. Furthermore, this 8th edition includes two new events from the prestigious National Championships. Athletes will have the opportunity to compete in the Portuguese Half Marathon Championship and the National 5 km Road Championship, events that are being held for the first time this year.

Highlighting the “excellence of the organization”, the president of the Braga City Council recalled that the Braga half marathon was created with the aim of placing Braga at the highest levels of national and international athletics. “After investing in the revitalization of existing races, we realized that it was necessary to hold a major competition that could position the city of Braga in national and international terms in major road races. Over the last few years we have encouraged the practice of athletics and this event is open to the entire community, being closely linked to projects such as the Walking and Running Center”, said Ricardo Rio, during the presentation of the event that took place today, at the Hall Noble of the Town Hall.

With more than 2 thousand registered athletes from 28 nationalities, this edition hopes to break all participant records. Sameiro Araújo, vice-president of Braga City Council, highlighted the “year after year” growth in the number of participants, in a competition that will have “the best national athletes and where the first individual and collective titles will be awarded” of the new national competitions. “These events are yet another exciting event and will give a boost to the Braga half marathon, in an event that has already established itself as a national reference”, highlighted the Sports councilor, also taking the opportunity to thank the people of Braga for their understanding, who, in In some way, they will be affected by the traffic restrictions inherent to a race of this nature.

The presentation of the Braga half marathon was also attended by Paulo Bernardo, vice-president of the Portuguese Athletics Federation, Paulo Trigo, managing director of Caravela Seguros, sponsor of the event, and Jorge Teixeira, director of runporto.
