Motorhomes have been growing in Portugal and the Alentejo and Ribatejo region is prepared to receive tourists who are increasingly opting for this way of traveling. This is because, if it is true that the number of people joining motorhomes has increased, this must mean responsibility and respect for the regions, the environment and local populations.
Thus, a pilot project was born in Alentejo and Ribatejo, promoted by the Regional Tourism Entity of Alentejo and Ribatejo based on the Life Campers campaign of Turismo de Portugal, which aims to create a Network of Service Areas for Motorhomes (ASA), thus promoting the use of suitable places for parking and overnight stays, as well as the adoption of good mobility practices.
This network was created to offer, throughout the territory, conditions for motorhome drivers to travel and experience Alentejo and Ribatejo, in a responsible and sustainable way.
Several spaces were created, distributed across some municipalities in the region, where tourists can enjoy quality and safe support services, contributing to visits with less environmental impact.
Thus, in Alto Alentejo we find five ASA’s, in Central Alentejo another five, one in Baixo Alentejo (Almodôvar) and three more in Ribatejo. In addition to this public investment, always with the support of the Valorizar Program, from Turismo de Portugal, three other infrastructures that are already in operation stand out, namely Glampinvan Parque, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, and CarPark/Alqueva Rural Camping, in Vidigueira, both private initiatives, and the Almodôvar Motorhome Park, a public initiative. By the end of 2024, another 20 ASA’s should come into operation distributed across Alto Alentejo, Alentejo Central, Baixo Alentejo, Alentejo Litoral and Ribatejo.
