DAfter being the first woman to head the Security Information Service (SIS) and IGAI, the body that monitors police activity, Margarida Blasco arrives at the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) at a time of great opposition from PSP elements. and the GNR, which require a mission supplement identical to that assigned to PJ inspectors.

Born on July 25, 1956 in Castelo Branco, Margarida Blasco graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon in 1978.

On February 17, 2012, she was appointed Inspector General of Internal Administration by the former Minister of Internal Administration Miguel Macedo, from the PSP/CDS-PP government of Pedro Passos Coelho, a position she held until July 2019, having been reappointed in the position for three times and the last service commission was renewed by former minister Eduardo Cabrita.

She left IGAI before finishing her third term in these roles after being appointed judge advisor to the Supreme Court of Justice, having retired in 2021.

In the seven years that he was at the head of the IGAI, he had to manage some media cases, most of the time related to alleged police abuses, and his mandates were marked by alleged accusations of racism in the police and criticism of the police.

Maria Margarida Blasco Martins Augusto was also chief of staff of the Deputy Secretary of State of the Minister of Justice between 1987 and 1991 and general director of the Security Information Service between 2004 and 2005, a position she held by choice of former Prime Minister Durão Barroso .

In addition to her duties as member of the Superior Council of the Judiciary and member of the Information System Supervisory Council (recommended by the PSD), Margarida Blasco’s CV also includes some media court cases.

Cases such as the Camarate case (plane crash in 1980 that killed the then Prime Minister Francisco Sá Carneiro and the Minister of Defense Adelino Amaro da Costa), the case of Dona Branca for financial fraud and that of Fernando Negrão (former director of the Judiciary Police dismissed due to a leak of information about an investigation into the Modern University).

The proposal for Margarida Blasco’s appointment appears in a note on the Presidency of the Republic portal, published after the head of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, accepted the list of ministers of the XXIV Constitutional Government submitted by the prime minister-designate, Luís Montenegro.
